Cindy Yuen-Zhe Chen explores listening as a methodology of drawing in the perception of place. Currently undertaking a research degree, she focuses upon multi-sensory approaches to iconic landscapes. Chen will respond to the site of Golden Gully through experimental drawing, video and sound practices. By exploring her bodily emplacement within this iconic site, Chen will examine her artistic agency as a Chinese, migrant female artist practicing in an historically rich Australian context. She aims to examine place as a process of engagement and to question the fixity of Hill End’s landscape and identity through contemporary artistic practice.
