Writer and art critic Andrew Frost will use his residency to work on a creative non-fiction writing project, Ghost & Town, that reflects on the shift between past and present as experienced by visitors to Hill End. The photoengraved plaques that are sited around Hill End’s streets present the visitor with the faces of the long dead citizens of this once-thriving gold-rush town, and provide the impetus for an examination of the photograph’s remarkable ability to evoke the past. Ghost & Town is a meditation on the nature of the photographic image, the archive, and of the ghosts said to haunt the town.
