Gatya Kelly is a painter whose practice has focused on the still life genre in a European tradition, referencing mostly exotic subject matter. At Hill End she plans to immerse herself in the landscape and history of the place - walking, studying, contemplating, drawing, documenting, photographing and painting - to gather materials and resources as the foundation of a new body of work with a unique and identifiably Australian character. She also hopes to draw inspiration from the artistic and architectural heritage of Murrays Cottage itself and Margaret Olley's legacy, the beautifully tiled stove.
